BIOMAPE Webinar: Building National Biomethane Registries for European Integration

How can national biomethane registries support market development, certificate management and cross-border integration across Europe?

On 21 October, the Horizon Europe project BIOMAPE – Biomethane Market Acceleration and Uptake in Europe will bring together national authorities and key stakeholders from its focus countries — Hungary, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia and Ukraine — for an online webinar dedicated to the development of effective national biomethane registry systems.

From European experience to practical national guidance

At the heart of the webinar will be the presentation of BIOMAPE’s recently published D2.1 – Updated Guidelines for Establishing National Biomethane Registries for Certificate Management.

Based on a comprehensive mapping of certificate and registry systems across 18 European countries, the report provides implementation-oriented guidance on registry design, governance and system architecture, supporting European market entry for biomethane and compliance with relevant targets across gas market segments.

Building on these findings, representatives from the BIOMAPE focus countries will share their national progress, challenges and practical approaches to establishing registry systems, managing certificates and enabling cross-border trade. The discussion will also include the European Commission’s perspective on biomethane market uptake, connecting national experiences with the wider European framework.

The webinar will offer an opportunity for authorities, market actors and other stakeholders to explore how robust registry and certificate systems can contribute to stronger and more integrated biomethane markets across Europe.
